Ittel Bonsai Pottery
Steve Ittel is a former PhD research chemist who worked in DuPont’s Central Research Department. Chemistry was his creative outlet until his retirement in 2013. He had been doing bonsai since about 1990 and more recently, has worked at Longwood Gardens as a volunteer curator. After retirement, he started taking classes in pottery with the objective of making pots for his bonsai hobby. He has become accomplished at hand-building pots and has turned out hundreds of pots which circulate in the mid-Atlantic region. His pot- making is limited to one 10 week session at the start of each year when the demands of his bonsai collection are at a minimum. Access to a well- stocked studio with both electric and gas-fired kilns and an array of tools and glazes has broadened his skills. Initially, Steve was careful to maintain his amateur status, giving away rather than selling most of his works, but he is now offering them outside the Delaware area. He hopes you enjoy his works. Steve also has a substantial collection of pots by well-known ceramists. These pots are now being offered for sale through this site. The process will be gradual.
